Mary, Co-Redeemer with Jesus

MARY, MEDIATRIX OF ALL GRACES

The Legion's trust in Mary is limitless, knowing that by the ordinance of God, her power is without limit. All that he could give to Mary, he has given to her. All that she was capable of receiving she has received in plenitude. For us God has constituted her a special means of grace. Operating in union with her we approach him more effectively, and hence win grace more freely. Indeed we place ourselves in the very flood-tide of grace, for she is the spouse of the Holy Spirit: she is the channel of every grace which Jesus Christ has won. We receive nothing which we do not owe to a positive intervention on her part. She does not content herself with transmitting all: she obtains all for us. Penetrated with belief in this office of Mary, the Legion enjoins it as a special devotion for all its members.

Now none has had a profounder, more comprehensive function, or one more decisive for the whole divine plan, than the blessed Virgin mother of our Lord Jesus Christ, in the earthly history of redemption, in which there figure, not only the Redeemer, but also the redeemed, not only the Son of God, but also human beings as God’s coadjutors, associates. For she received salvation for us, by God’s grace, but with true freedom, for us and for our eternal welfare. And what once happened on our behalf through her in that unsurpassable, unique way, must in a true sense have become eternal.

The absolutely unique Yes of consent of the blessed Virgin, which co-operated in determining the whole history of the world, is not a mere happening that has disappeared into the void of the past. It occurred as an event in a personal spiritual history, by grace, and therefore it is - it is eternally.

Writer's position on this Issue -

As Karl Rahner points out in his book "Mary Mother of the Lord", it is the limitations of language which cause us to apply similar sounding words to Jesus, Mediator, and Mary, Mediatrix, whereas the meanings of these words, as understood by Catholics, are radically different.

Whereas Jesus, as God, is Creator and Originator and Primary Giver of everything we receive from God, Mary, as one of Us ordinary created Human Beings, is by an act of her own will the Sole Receiver and Dispenser of everything we receive from God.

God the Father designed His Plan for His relationship with Us in such a way that the Apex of the Plan, the Incarnation of the Second Person in God, was to be and has been dependent on her freely agreeing to be His Mother. The efficacy of His ENTIRE Plan for His relationship with Us was dependent on implementing that Apex. Therefore, the efficacy of His ENTIRE Plan for His relationship with Us was dependent on her freely agreeing to be His Mother. By agreeing to be the Mother of the Second Person in God she became the Sole Receiver of everything God gives to Us - including not only the now proverbial, Life, the Universe and Everything^*, but also our Shares in the Divinity of Jesus Christ and all of the Essential Means to sustain our Shares in the Divine Nature as Living Shares.

It is in a similarly different sense that we understand Jesus to be Redeemer and Mary to be Co-Redeemer or Co-Redemptrix.

The Single Most Important Truth

Since the time that I had responsibility for two Junior Praesidia of the Legion of Mary, with another member, in the late 1960s, I had set myself the objective of writing a brief and clear synopsis of Catholic Beliefs. In the context of explaining such Beliefs to our Junior members, I had a lengthy private conversation with the Founder of the Legion of Mary, Frank Duff at Legion headquarters. I had written to him about the matter and he suggested that we meet to discuss it.

However, it was a very long time before I had a document setting out my picture of the relationship between God and Us that I was satisfied with. This was long after I had left the Legion, got married and, with my wife, had started a family. The date of the final document is 26th April 2012. I made the document available on this website as two PDF file, one suitable for reading on a Kindle and the other suitable for printing on A4 and Letter-sized paper. Subsequent to doing that I saw two minor visions that I feel sure were initiated by the Virgin Mary. The dates of the two minor visions were 26th April 2014 and 27th June 2015. I had never before seen such things and have not seen any since.

I'm not 100% sure why, but I decided that, among other things, those minor visions were a ''hint'' to me that I should have the document produced as a real book and to make it available ''Free of Charge''. I had 100 copies printed in May 2016 and a further 100 copies printed in October 2017.
